Ogunquit, Maine is a peaceful hassle-free getaway, with a wide variety of art and natural beauty. Located a short 2.5 miles south from Footbridge Beach Motel, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) offers all who visit a front row seat to the history and beauty of American art.
Exhibits and Events
Paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs from the late 1800s to the present are permanently exhibited at the OMAA. Innovative modern and contemporary exhibitions are displayed from May through October. Large windows and three acres of sculpture gardens invite those who visit the opportunity to wander among the creations, taking in the exquisite views of Narrow Cove and the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition to exhibits, poets and authors regularly make appearances, lectures are provided, special events occur throughout the season, and children are encouraged to join in stories by the sea. For the artist or art enthusiast, the OMAA offers over 3,000 modernist works to admire. Exhibits include work by Robert Henri, Marsden Hartley, Jacob Lawrence, Mark Tobey and many more.
This is the only museum in Maine devoted exclusively to the exhibition, preservation, and interpretation of American art. It is closely connected to two of America’s earliest art colonies. From June to August, every other Tuesday, the museum provides one-hour walking tours of the Ogunquit art colony. Check their schedule before planning your trip. This is a tour you won’t want to miss!
Enjoy Your Stay With Us
To enjoy all that Ogunquit has to offer, stay with us at the Footbridge Motel, and ride the trolley for your outings. Our Motel is at trolley stop #36, while the Museum of American Art, located in Perkin’s Cove, is at trolley stop #19. The trolley, run by The Ogunquit Trolley Company, offers easy affordable transportation with a scenic view of the town.
Originally a small fishing community, Perkin’s Cove has been home to artists for over one hundred years. It is now home to shops, restaurants, and breathtaking outlooks. You’ll want to spend more than one day exploring stop #19. Set aside a Tuesday for the OMAA, and come back the next day to explore all the harbor has to offer.
In addition to our convenient location to the Art Museum and public transportation, our Motel is a short three-minute walk across the Ogunquit River to Footbridge Beach. The clear water and beautiful views make this the perfect spot for the artist or photographer year-round. Visited less than the Ogunquit beach, this location stays relatively quiet. On windy days, the spray blows off the top of blue-green waves, offering a tranquil picture perfect setting.
You will want to set aside a full day, if not more, to explore the natural beauty of Maine. Rent a kayak and borrow a wetsuit to see the shoreline from the water. Take a hike to discover the local birds and animals that grace our shores. The rocky views against the clear ocean provide gorgeous backdrops for family photos or the perfect frame for the nature photographer. Cap off the evening with local coastal cuisine, and then relax poolside with us back at Footbridge Motel.
Our newly renovated suites offer amenities, including sundeck chairs and a heated pool. The suites sleep two to six guests. For larger parties, ask about the 1,311 square foot Beach House Rental. Come get lost in the art, natural beauty, and history of our small town!
