October is a beautiful time of year to visit Ogunquit, Maine. As the trees turn colors and the air crisps visitors enjoy breathtaking views and fun fall festivities. This year marks the 15th Annual OgunquitFest held October 19th – 21st. The entire town takes part and it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss.
With so many activities to choose from, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorites. For those who like to live spontaneously tie up those walking shoes and start touring the town. Make sure to pay special attention to the retail signs throughout Ogunquit. There are clues throughout the town that lead to prizes. While you’re out you’ll have a variety of excellent restaurants to choose from. Whether you pack an itinerary or not, there is plenty to discover.
For those who enjoy a good plan, we’ve got you covered. Here are our top 12 suggestions to enjoy OgunquitFest. You’ll find something for the whole family.
#1 Leavitt Theatre’s Haunted Tour
Friday, October 19 kickoff the weekend by heading to Leavitt Theatre for a haunted tour. Tours run continuously from 4 to 6:30 pm at 259 Main Street Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The tour is free for those participating in OgunquitFest.
Stay and enjoy the lounge for the remainder of the evening or head downtown for your next event.
#2 Trick or Treat
From 5 to 7pm downtown shops are open for trick or treaters. Young and old dress up and trick or treat to the delight of our shopkeepers.
#3 Hotel Transylvania Movie
Once you’ve collected all of your treats follow the crowd back to Leavitt Theatre for a showing of the Hotel Transylvania Movie. Movie begins at 7pm.
Following the movie, we suggest returning to Footbridge Motel for a restful night as you prepare for Saturday’s festivities!
#4 Autumn Bazaar
It’s easy to get lost and spend the whole day exploring the 75 vendors set up in the Main Beach parking lot from 9am to 4pm. Spend the day shopping and winning prizes. If you can’t hit them all on Saturday, don’t worry the Bazaar is open on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
#5 Whoopie Pie Eating Contest
Of course, you’ll want a snack. Why not join in the Whoopie Pie Eating Contest from 12 to 1pm at the Old Village School Playground on School Street? How fast can you eat this favorite Maine treat without using your hands? If you don’t know the answer, then it’s time to find out!
#6 River Rally
Participants put in and paddle to the Beach Street bridge and back. This isn’t a hardcore race, simply a fun way to enjoy the water together from 2:30 to 4pm.
#7 Ogunquitfest Obstacle Course
A Halloween-themed Obstacle Course is set up on the river side of the beach for the kids! Let them run off all that sugar from the night before while you catch your breath, or maybe join in.
#8 Wine Tasting
Welcome in the evening and head over to Perkins & Perkins Wine and Cheese Shop at 478 Main Street between 2 and 5 pm for a selection of fall wines.
#9 Ghost Tours
End the evening with a ghostly tour at Ogunquit Heritage Museum on Obeds Lane. Bring your flashlights and take a ghostly walk through the Ogunquit between 6 and 8pm. $5 for adults, children under 10 are free.
#10 Costume Contest, Parade, and Dogtoberfest Pooch Pageant!
Sleep in Sunday morning, and then join the Ogunquit Village School on Cottage Street from 10 to 11am. There is a costume contest for the kids with prizes, jugglers, music, cider, donuts, and more! At 11am costumed kids, adults, and pets join in a parade from School Street to Main Beach Parking Lot where at 11:30am dogs compete for “Ogunquit’s Best Dressed Dog.”
#11 Waiter Races
Cheer on our annual Waiter Races at 12pm at the end of Beach Street. Waiters race down Beach Street and back through an obstacle course carrying a full tray. To win the prize the contestant must make it through the course without spilling. Anyone can participate, grab a tray and join in!
#12 High Heel Dash and Walk-off
At the waiter races you prove you can balance a tray, but can you balance on heels? Find out by joining in the race around Perkins Cove at 3pm. Prizes are awarded for Best Time, Highest Heel, and Most Outrageous Costume. Take a look at the photo gallery from last year and start planning your costume now.
