Christmas by the Sea is a can’t-miss event held the second weekend in December every year. If Get ready to step into a Hallmark Christmas movie and take in everything from visits with Santa, tree lightings, hayrides, fireworks, bonfires, bazaars, live music, a parade and so much more. There’s literally something for everyone to enjoy no matter your age.
With so many fun-filled activities to choose from, we’ve lined up our top five things to do at Christmas by the Sea in Ogunquit.
Christmas Tree Lighting
The opening evening of the weekend begins with a concert of seasonal music held at the Ogunquit Baptist Church. Then, it’s time for everyone to make their way to Rotary Park (located in the center of Perkins Cove) for the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. As you take in the traditional tree lighting, carolers and warm beverages will help you to get into the spirit of Christmas.
Basement Bazaar and the Annual Arts & Crafts Show
The next day provides the perfect opportunity to stock up on unique Christmas gifts for that hard-to-shop-for friend or family member. Even better, the proceeds of the arts & crafts show go toward a great cause — benefitting the Ogunquit Fire Rescue.
Annual Art Sale
Held at Gypsy Sweethearts on Shore Road, this event sees more than 15 of Ogunquit’s top artists and crafters marketing their goods. There’s lots to take in from original artwork, jewelry, wreaths, baked products and much more. To top it all off, there will be wine available by the glass for your shopping pleasure.
Fireworks
What better way to end a day of shopping and visits with Santa (who arrives in a fire truck, no less) than taking in the glorious fireworks display from the Main Beach Parking Lot. And, if you’re feeling chilling, then be sure to warm up by the bonfire while you enjoy more live music.
But the fun doesn’t end here. After the fireworks, you can head over to the Ogunquit Baptist Church to take in the living manger followed by a free concert.
Taste the Season
Ogunquit is well-known for its wide variety of cuisines and things don’t slow down just because the weather changes. In fact, during the weekend of Christmas by the Sea, you’ll be able to enjoy a seemingly endless list of local eats from delicious chowder to delectable desserts and a pancake breakfast (which doubles as a pajama party) held on the final day of the event.
